A smoothie a day keeps the doctor away right?!

Smoothies form great part of my day as it saves time post workout and before heading out to the office. Convenient and quick to make, it’s one of the best ways to nourish your body without taking time or a messy kitchen for that matter – (unless your like me that’s managed to ruin countless blenders due to the blade not being screwed in properly – FACEPALM)

Below is some quick tips on how to make the most out of including msoothies

Essential Ingredients

1. Protein Powder

If you know your daily food intake does not include enough protein, adding a powder to your smoothie is the ideal way to meet your daily requirement. Especially after a sweaty workout as protein helps your muscle tissue to repair and recover.

2. Spinach

Embrace your inner Pop Eye and feel free to add as much as spinach as you want to your Smoothies. I usually grab a handful and I can ensure you, you cannot taste a thing! Sneaky way to sneak in some extra greens. Hell Yeah! Spinach also helps to strengthen muscles, boosts digestion and keep your eyes heathy.

3. Psyllium Husks

This high in fibre powder is derived from the seeds of Plantago ovata, grown in India. As with any high-fibre food or supplement, it helps keep you regular if you know what I mean. It apparently also helps promote healthy gut bacteria.

Top Tips

1. Watch Your Portion Size

It’s really easy to fill up a Nutribullet full of good but calorie dense ingredients so be careful not to make your portion sizes to big unless it’s replacing a full meal. Using the small Nutribullet cup will help keep portion sizes at bay and if you don’t have a Nutribullet, measure your portions as follows: Will you be able to eat the fruit/veg you are adding in raw form, all in one go? No? Then downsize.

2. Get Creative

Try different combinations that you’ve never had in your life. The veggie smoothie is becoming a huge trend and for good reason. Adding the likes of Cauliflower and Pumpkin to your smoothies gives it that nutritious kick AND it makes it extra creamy. If you’ve never made a Smoothie Bowl, it’s time to jump on that Breakfast bandwagon. Top your smoothie with your favourite breakfast granola, a selection of superfood seeds or to indulge that sweet tooth, anything from chocolate chips to rainbow sprinkles.

3. Invest in a Good Blender

It took me ages to be convinced to buy a Nutribullet and eventually last year hubby got me one for Christmas and it was the best gift ever! I even purchased a travel bag for it so I can take it with me on short getaways over the weekend. The blade is super powerful and smoothies have a creamy texture. It’s easy to clean and the most practical blender I’ve ever ownerd. Definitely worth every cent.
