Forsaken Liberty

on

The motivation for these lyrics definitely had a feminist undertone. As women, we’ve been oppressed by culture, religion and society through the ages. Forsaken from the moment we are born.

FORSAKEN LIBERTY
She’s dressed up but covered
With nowhere to go
Her eyes tell a story
You’ll never know
Her hurt caused by creed
Oppressed her need
Forsake the family
She came from

She’s pressured but persistent
With her cold feet forced
Her bland eyes stare
You and I won’t comprehend

Her soul bound by custom
Despotism her pain
Demeanour, dull and dreary
Disown their desolate ways

Forsaken by their faith
Traditions and tyranny
Beliefs, brutality
Mutilation and misery
Suppressed by their sect
Heartbreak and hardships
Subject to suffer
Accused and abused

She’s dressed up but covered
With nowhere to go
Her eyes tell a story
You’ll never know
Her hurt caused by creed
Oppressed her need
Forsake the family
She came from

Blindfolded, body bare
With her mouth mutilated
Her tender, teary eyes
Forced to recognize

Her flesh mangled by myth
Culture cut her reality
Respect earned, liberty lost
Relinquish their timeworn rituals
